Centenary of the Home Main Building
The Palace for the Poor & Centenary of Residential High School
26th June 2022
About Centenary Celebrations:
Swami Brahmanandaji Maharaj the first president of Ramakrishna Math & Mission laid the foundation stone on 6-5-1917 for the Home Main Building and 4 years later when the building was completed, was declared open on 10-05-1921 the Akshaya Tritiya Day. The Swamiji had created in the Home, an atmosphere of love, peace and serenity and aptly named it as the “Palace for the Poor”
In the year 1922, a Residential High School was started in this “Palace for the Poor” where the boys were given a Gurukula Type of education with free boarding and lodging facilities.
Thus with the blessing of Sri Ramakrishna Paramahamsa through his direct disciples Swami Ramakrishnananda and Swami Brahmananda and through tireless efforts of Sri Ramaswamy Iyengar and later Sri Ramanuja Chariar the palace for the poor have been seeded sprouted and grown into a large banyan tree.
Thus the centenary of the Residential High school and the Home Main building have been planned to be celebrated in an impressive manner on 26-06-2022.
