Finland Education Minister's visit to
Ramakrishna Mission Students' Home, Mylapore, Chennai

Ms. Anna-Maja Henriksson, Finland’s Minister of Education, visited our Students’ Home on Friday, 20th October 2023. Finland’s Ambassador to India Mr. Kimmo Lahdevirta, Mr. Chidambaram, Hon. Consul of Finland, Chennai, and members of a Finnish-Indian higher education network and consulate staff accompanied her during the visit.

The purpose of her visit to India was to deepen the existing cooperation in education projects and to support their operations and export efforts. In addition, to take initiatives to develop vocational education cooperation within the framework of attracting and employing skilled workers and experts from India in the needed sectors. This is in the light of both countries, over the decades, have seen a significant deepening of the relationship in different sectors, including trade, technology, education and culture.

In our Home, they visited our Polytechnic College and Vivekananda-BPCL Skill Development Centre. They went to Laboratories and workshops like Automobile Chassis & transmission lab, Engine lab, Electric vehicle lab, Refrigeration & Air conditioning lab, Mechatronics lab, Modular production system & Robotics lab, Computer Aided Design lab, Computer hardware lab, Network security centre and Software development centre.

They were briefed about the Vocational training being offered to students in our Skill Development Centre. She and her team interacted with our Polytechnic faculties & students to learn more and to have first-hand information about the Vocational and Hands-on training offered.

They also saw the Mobile Robotics Lab which trains the students of Government schools in and around Chennai on the basics of Robotics and the Internet of Things (IoT) as a part of our Home's educational activities.

Her team saw the display of Navaratri Kolu. They were briefed about the significance of Navaratri and also about our Home's Holistic approach to helping the downtrodden people of our society. She and her team were impressed and appreciative of the welfare activities carried out by our Home.

Finally, they were given mementoes as a mark of remembrance of their visit to our Students’ Home.
